E-commerce businesses today face competition on a much higher level than traditional brick-and-mortar stores did when they reigned. Even if you cater to local needs, you can face competition from multiple businesses located on the other side of the globe. The only way to beat your competition online is to rank high on search engines.
If your website is an e-commerce, then you must already have dabbled in some level of Search Engine Optimization (SEO), so we won’t waste time with standard techniques and will just tell you two of our tried-and-tested techniques that have worked for our clients.
Use SEO plugins
The key to boosting your site is optimizing every single product you have in your store. The shortcut to doing that is using an SEO plugin. Let’s say you’re using WordPress as your content management system, two effective plugins to use are WooCommerce and Yoast SEO. The WooCommerce plugin is used to create your store, while Yoast SEO will help promote every single product on your website.
No matter the kind of businesses you have, your website will pop up when somebody searches for the type of product you sell. These plugins do optimization at the product level which is something any SEO expert will do for you manually.
Group similar products together
Creating a column on your webpages that have similar products listed next to each product is a great way to keep visitors on your site longer. If for example you have an online sock business, set up a tab on the side of each page that lists different categories of socks, like ankle-high socks, knee-high, etc. That way if your SEO strategy doesn’t bring somebody to your page where you want them to be, they can see something similar and connect to it. Being able to see similar products will help. SEO brings them to your website for the almost perfect product, but then the can see the perfect product by seeing other links under similar products.
This is known as on-page optimization because when you do that, you’re creating a bunch of links within the site that are associated with the original word. SEO algorithms will see that and they will believe this product or this service is an authoritative product or service and will then rank you higher in the search listings.
